Overview Start Menu

The Status tab is the default main page. From this page, you can access all features of SpyCatcher by clicking the appropriate tab. This page is divided into three sections:

1. Scan - This page provides information on your last scan and a link to schedule automatic scans.

2. Protection - This section displays how many recognized applications that are potentially spyware. There is also a link that brings you to the Protection overview tab where you can get a summary or change application, behavior, or vendor policies running on your system.

3. Engine Status - This section tells you whether the SpyCatcher engine is running and whether its integrity has been compromised.

Scan Options

SpyCatcher allows you to customize your scanning preferences to suit your privacy needs. All scan options use the Spyware Profiling Engine, which ensures cutting-edge protection by using a multiple layers of technology to insure a high degree of spyware detection accuracy. SpyCatcher runs the fastest and most comprehensive scans of any antispyware product on the market.

Scan Results

When SpyCatcher completes a spyware scan, a list of recognized spyware applications that were found on your computer (applications for which there are matches in the SpyCatcher signature database) will appear in a window. SpyCatcher provides the flexibility to allow you to change the default policy of ask me on any of these applications listed to block or allow.

Protection Levels

The Protection tab proactively monitors for spyware keeping your computer safe between scans. There are three policy sections (Application Policy, Vendor Policy and Behavior Policy), which you can click on the links to view or change their current settings.

Protection Application Policy

This page lists the recognized applications (applications listed in the SpyCatcher signature database or added by users) that have been found on your system since you installed SpyCatcher. The Policy displays the course of action that SpyCatcher will apply for the specified application. You can Allow, Block, or Ignore a specific application.

Real-Time Spyware Behavioral Monitoring

When SpyCatcher detects potential spyware behavior from an unrecognized application, it prompts you to set a policy for the application that is causing the behavior, and (if applicable) the vendor that launched the application. A behavior is a specific action or combination of potentially undesirable actions performed by an application (or its components).

Advanced Protection

SpyCatcher's System Explorer option gives you complete control over the applications you want running in your computer. It first lists all software programs that are currently operating in your computer's memory. From this menu, you can decide to allow or block and delete any application.

Some spyware can redirect a domain name to a rogue web site by changing an entry in your browser's hosts file. SpyCatcher's Advanced tab provides a Hosts File page, which shows you at a glance whether any hosts file entries are questionable.

Cookies are pieces of data passed from your web browser to the web server of a site you have visited. Cookies and their associated browser data can provide information to a web server about the sites you have visited. This information can be used by advertisers to display ads related to your browsing habits.

SpyCatcher reports recognized cookies (cookies that are in SpyCatcher's signature database) as they emerge on your system, and lets you easily get more information about any recognized cookie. You can decide to allow all cookies, or block them all.

The SpyCatcher event log lists events that occurred and actions SpyCatcher took.
