- Method of infection: Freeze.com is a website which offers various screensavers for free. Any screensaver downloaded from Freeze.com comes bundled with various other applications, many of which are known adware programs.
- Advertising: Freeze uses cookies and collects personal information during registration to display targeted advertising to the user. Some of these ads may come through email as Freeze shares email addresses with its affiliates.
Upon installation, Freeze places several shortcut links on the user's desktop. These links open the users web browser to Freeze.com affiliate offers. These shortcuts are effectively advertisements in themselves. - Privacy issues: Freeze.com requires registration before allowing downloads. This registration process requires personally identifiable information to be disclosed. Freeze shares this personally identifiable information with it's affiliates for the purpose of advertising and demographic research. Freeze and affiliates also uses tracking cookies to monitor browsing habits.
