This application is a worm. Unlike a virus, whose purpose is both to install itself on as many computers as possible and then perform some (probably damaging) action on them, worms are designed primarily to copy themselves and not to accomplish anything specific once copied. Worms can do a lot of damage to a network or even the Internet if they multiply fast enough, and they could be used by malicious software as a means to spread.

- Method of infection: Colevo spreads via email; it contains its own SMTP (outgoing mail protocol) engine and will send viral emails to all contacts in the MSN Messenger buddy list.
- Security issues: Colevo may contain a keylogging element as well as a backdoor. These elements are a serious security risk.
