This application is adware. Adware is not normally a threat, but is usually considered a nuisance. It might have been installed by another application. It can pop up advertisements even if you have a popup blocker on your computer. It can monitor your computer usage to generate ads that you are more likely to respond to. - Method of infection: Adknowledge must be manually installed. This usually happens when Adknowledge is bundled with ad-supported software. It can also be downloaded by clicking on an Adknowledge banner ad.
- Advertising: Adknowledge creates targeted popup advertisements. It also inserts banner advertisements in webpages and sends spam emails.
- Browser degradation: Adknowledge includes a browser helper object, and as such may cause Internet Explorer to run slowly.
- Privacy issues: Adknowledge tracks your web-surfing habits and reports that information back to its controlling servers. Adknowledge claims they track only by a unique ID number.
- Privacy policy: There is no privacy policy available online. They do mention a few of their practices here.
