On March 1, Download.com unveiled a new security center, including a round-up of the top 10 anti-spyware products. Tenebril's SpyCatcher 2006 received 7.2 points ("very good") and edged out previous PC Magazine Editors Choice award winners to round out the top three.
In a preface to the reviews, CNET staff noted that for many Internet users, spyware is now a larger threat than viruses. For that reason reviewers evaluated each product by its spyware detection abilities as well as its feature set.
According to the review, SpyCatcher 2006 is "a powerful and elegant solution for protecting your system against spyware." The article continued to say that "SpyCatcher finished at the top of our list for removing known spyware and ranking third for overall performance."
