Tenebril Announces Support for Anti-Spyware Coalition
Technology Leader in Anti-Spyware Participates in New Industry-Wide Effort to Define Spyware
SAN MATEO, Calif. – July 12, 2005 – Tenebril™ Inc., a technology leader in anti-spyware and privacy solutions, today announced its support for the Anti-Spyware Coalition's (ASC) new definition of spyware and praised the Coalition's ability to drive a shared understanding of the problem.
"Spyware distributors are accelerating their rate of technological innovation resulting in compromised privacy and security," said Frederick Felman, senior vice president of marketing and products at Tenebril, Inc. "As a technology community, we have the opportunity to forge a common understanding of this threat, freeing anti-spyware vendors to compete and innovate in protecting both enterprises and consumers from the most pernicious forms of spyware such as hyper-mutating spyware strains."
Tenebril is a member of the ASC which is an alliance of technology companies and public interest groups dedicated to building a consensus about definitions and best practices in the debate surrounding spyware and other potentially unwanted technologies.
The ASC will hold a public comment period on the draft definitions through August 11. Once the comment period ends, ASC members will incorporate the best recommendations into the group's final definition. In addition, the ASC is helping to educate Internet users by offering helpful tips and a glossary of terms at an informational web site, http://www.antispywarecoalition.org.
The ASC describes "spyware and other potentially unwanted technologies," as those that "impair user's control over: the collection, use and distribution of their personal information; material changes that affect their desktop experience, privacy or system security; or use of their system resources."
Tenebril enables enterprises and consumers to protect themselves from the biggest risks posed by spyware, including new strains of mutating spyware that go undetected by current anti-spyware technologies. Research shows that more than 15 percent of all spyware is now capable of mutation.
